Im ersten Teil werden Grundlagen der modellgestützten Planung dargestellt, die zum Verständnis der weiteren Ausführungen wichtig sind. Der zweite Teil setzt sich ausführlich mit Konzepten und Methoden der robusten Planung und Optimierung auseinander. Im letzten Teil werden entsprechende Ansätze am Beispiel der Projektablauf- und der Produktionsprogrammplanung dargestellt und im Rahmen experimenteller Untersuchungen auf ihre Anwendbarkeit und ihren potentiellen Nutzen untersucht. Bei einer Gegenüberstellung mit gängigen deterministischen Planungsmethoden - wie sie in PPS-Systemen oder Projektmanagementsoftware enthalten sind - zeigt sich eine deutliche Überlegenheit robuster Methoden im Hinblick auf die erzielbare Planungsqualität.
