A iniciativa de cuidados de saúde domiciliares tem sido amplamente adotada no setor de saúde dos EUA, principalmente não só para controlar os custos dos cuidados de saúde através da redução dos custos de readmissão e transporte, mas também para melhorar a qualidade dos cuidados de saúde pós-hospitalares e aumentar a independência dos pacientes. A necessidade de eficácia e eficiência nos cuidados de saúde domiciliares, em um contexto de escassez de enfermeiros e outros profissionais, cria um ambiente em que os robôs (por exemplo, robôs de cuidados de saúde domiciliares, ou HHRs) podem ser muito úteis. Para proporcionar cuidados de saúde mais amplos e melhores, os HHRs podem desempenhar um papel importante na assistência a pacientes que vivem de forma independente em casa e a enfermeiros e médicos, complementando as suas tarefas diárias.
