Every ripple which appears on the glassy smooth surface of a lake has a certain and purposeful cause. Seeing the result we wonder of the cause. Daily we are touched by the unique influence of those God places in our journey. They bring influences which roll through our lives like gentle ripples rolling over the surface of the waters of our lives. Sometimes they are obvious and clearly simple; at others convoluted with hidden meaning. It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings is to search out a matter; Proverbs 25:2. Sometimes you see the fish jump and watch the ripple flow out from it. If you miss the jump but see the ripple, you know the fish was there. Knowing the cause and seeing the result is made easier when we have seen it in the lives of others.John Jory became a Christian as a twenty six year old member of the United States Air Force through the exuberant witness of another believer. He became a preacher and evangelist at the calling of God the following year. Ten years later a Godly man named Jack introduced John as a Servant of the Most High God. It changed how he viewed himself and his God. For the last ten years John has written and shared all the Lord has put in his heart. All of his stories have really happened to his family or others very close. They are personal and intimate. His joyful marriage with Sue continues after thirty six years. They have three adult children serving the Lord. All that he writes, teaches and preaches bear the mark of the One he serves; SMHG John.

‘There’s a touch of both Dickinson and Larkin in Jennifer Chrystie’s mature exhumation of the tales and tropes of family. The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

  • One Kiss
    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....

  • The Truth about A

In his interpretation of Antigone, Seamus Heaney says, ‘Nobody can be sure they are always right.’ Maureen O’Shaughnessy’s The Truth about A further attends to this idea through various readings of the myth as portrayed by Sophocles, Brecht, Ted Hughes, Anne Carson and, most particularly, Euripides.
