La maggior parte dell’approvvigionamento idrico potabile nelle zone rurali dell’India dipende dalle pompe a mano. Le fonti di acqua potabile sono spesso contaminate, con conseguente eccesso di fluoro proveniente da fonti geogeniche. Secondo stime recenti, milioni di persone in India sono affette da fluorosi. Il fluoruro è un componente normale dell’acqua naturale e l’alterazione dei minerali fluorurati, insieme alle condizioni delle acque sotterranee, porta a livelli più elevati di fluoruro nelle falde acquifere di alcune regioni aride, che diventano endemiche per la fluorosi. In questo scenario, è stata preparata la defluorizzazione utilizzando nano idrossiapatite con vari metodi e approcci che combinano diversi materiali naturali per la rimozione del fluoruro. L’applicazione di nanomateriali per la rimozione del fluoro dalle acque sotterranee e la sua utilità a livello pratico. Per questo studio sono state adottate varie tecniche di indagine, insieme a una discussione dettagliata a livello comunitario per la costruzione di serbatoi di rimozione del fluoro (FRT) utilizzando materiali naturali disponibili localmente. Vengono illustrati i dettagli dei FRT a livello comunitario con il meccanismo di rimozione del fluoro. I materiali utilizzati sono stati realizzati in modo da rendere i mattoni cavi resistenti alla lisciviazione. Ciò include anche la valutazione dei costi dell’acqua trattata.
