Nella prima parte, il dramma Pentesilea di Heinrich von Kleist è visto come una tragedia della distruzione delle relazioni interpersonali attraverso la guerra. Utilizza la tragedia del mito amazzonico, che permette alle Amazzoni di trovare un amante solo dopo averlo sconfitto in battaglia, per contrastare la tragedia del fallimento dell’amore tra Achille e Pentesilea, archetipi eroici della guerra di Troia, che si affrontano in battaglia, come qui le Amazzoni affrontano in battaglia i Greci e i Troiani, in accordo con la poesia di Kleist 'La pace superiore', in cui 'sui carri tonanti della guerra si armano gli uomini', i cui cuori 'il Dio dell’amore ha creato'. La seconda parte esamina il mito di Filottete da Omero a Heiner Müller, mette in relazione il suo concetto di morte eroica in guerra con 'Im Westen nichts Neues' di Erich Maria Remarque, i libretti d’opera come le Troiane di Berlioz con Bertolt Brecht e Karl Kraus e li confronta con l’ideologia della tragedia dell’uso della forza nei processi di polizia.
