En esta segunda parte de Atentado sigue la contradanza entre personajes reales y ficticios que ya se iniciara en la primera. El propio autor aparece fugazmente aludido diversas ocasiones: una suerte de lo que el lenguaje cinematográfico denomina «cameo». La acción transcurre en Ribera del Duero, concretamente en el pueblo de Roa, donde Aurora y Santiago han adquirido —tras licenciarse este como jefe del Servicio de Información del Regimiento de la Guardia— un lagar con bodega, casa y viña. No obstante, al tratarse de un sitio apartado y sin ellos dar muchos visos de su presencia, hasta allí llegan en varias ocasiones los camaradas de aquellos a los que el protagonista neutralizó durante su anterior labor en El Pardo. Sin embargo, cuenta con el auxilio de los servicios secretos de la época, básicamente el SECED, así como sus amigos de la CIA.
