The story follows Virgil Dunn, a southerner who fought for the north in the American Civil War, as he seeks retribution for the massacre of his unit after the war had ended. Virgil's quest brings him into the middle of a range war between a mining consortium and a large cattle ranch. The tale has good guys, bad guys, and a motley collection of colorful characters that are neither good nor bad, all playing their parts.
