La responsabilité sociétale des entreprises (RSE) également appelée responsabilité sociale des entreprises est définie comme la responsabilité des entreprises vis-à-vis des effets qu’elles exercent sur la société. Pour comprendre les enjeux de la RSE au Burundi, une étude a été menée dans le secteur d’assurance. Au Burundi la RSE est un sujet tout à fait nouveau qui est peu ou pas évoqué dans le secteur assurantiel du Burundi. Il n’existe actuellement aucune réglementation en la matière, ce qui constitue le principal obstacle lié au déploiement de cette démarche RSE. En ce qui est des préoccupations sociales, celles-ci portent essentiellement sur les parties prenantes internes de l’entreprise. Cependant, il a été constaté que les préoccupations sociales ne portent pas sur le travail des personnes handicapées alors que le handicap, par sa dimension sociale fait pleinement partie de la RSE. S’agissant des préoccupations environnementales, les actions dominantes portent sur la consommation du papier, la gestion de l’eau et de l’électricité. Cependant, dans un contexte de l’urgence climatique, les sociétés d’assurance devraient intégrer les risques climatiques dans leur portefeuille.
