Os problemas de saúde no trabalho estão a tornar-se a principal preocupação em termos de saúde pública em todo o mundo. As doenças respiratórias profissionais na Etiópia são muito frequentes. Este resultado deve-se ao facto de a sensibilização para a saúde na comunidade não ser bem feita. Este facto resultou numa prevalência muito elevada de sintomas de saúde respiratória profissional nos varredores de rua em Adis Abeba, na Etiópia. Os grupos mais vulneráveis são os varredores de rua. Os varredores de rua têm de varrer e deitar fora materiais na rua. A falta de sensibilização para a utilização de equipamento de proteção individual aumenta a prevalência de sintomas de saúde respiratória entre os varredores de rua na maioria dos países em desenvolvimento.
