A resistência colonial no país de Akwa foi o resultado de várias causas, que podem ser resumidas pela vontade firme dos Akwa de defender a integridade da sua comunidade. Estas resistências foram sem dúvida bem organizadas, por várias partes, em várias formas, com uma participação considerável das mulheres. Contudo, apesar da grande e formidável inteligência dos combatentes locais, o armamento mais moderno e mortífero do inimigo levou sempre a melhor sobre as suas armas rudimentares de eficácia limitada. Contudo, não se pode dizer que esta resistência tenha sido a luta do pote de ferro contra o pote de barro. O que é digno de nota é que, apesar de tudo, a empresa colonial nunca conseguiu erradicar totalmente os valores socioculturais desta sociedade.
