O prolapso dos órgãos pélvicos (POP) é uma condição comum que causa sintomas pélvicos e prejudica a qualidade de vida. De acordo com a literatura, a suspensão lateral é reconhecida como uma técnica cirúrgica alternativa à promontofixação, com base em bons resultados anatómicos e funcionais. Estudo prospetivo numa amostra de 60 doentes operadas entre 2016 e 2019 com suspensão lateral, com avaliação anatómica através do POP-Q e avaliação funcional através do questionário PFDI-20 para sintomas pélvicos, do PFIQ-7 para qualidade de vida e do PGI-I para satisfação das doentes: idade média 57,6±8,9 anos, 53,3% tinham pelo menos um parto de criança grande, com trauma obstétrico presente em 73,3%. O tempo médio de cirurgia foi de 139,5±58,6. A taxa de complicações operatórias foi muito baixa, 3,3%. As complicações pós-operatórias incluíram exposição da prótese e fístula ureterovaginal. Os resultados anatómicos aos 12 meses foram excelentes, com uma taxa de bons resultados de 90%.
