Der Autor zeigt eine große Vielfalt von Glaubensüberzeugungen und religiös begründeter politischer Standpunkte auf. Nach religionspsychologischen Anhaltspunkten werden Typen religiöser Außendarstellung gebildet und anhand von Konfession, Parteizugehörigkeit und weiteren Merkmalen verglichen. In Bezug auf politische Sachfragen wird religiöse Rede für ausgewählte Politikbereiche untersucht. Die Ergebnisse verdeutlichen, dass religiöse Politiker auch über Parteigrenzen hinweg gemeinsame Standpunkte vertreten und diese religiös begründen. Gleichzeitig unternehmen sie bisweilen große Anstrengungen, um ihre religiösen Überzeugungen für eine postsäkulare Gesellschaft zu übersetzen.
