Este livro ilustra a relevância do conceito de Māyā na ontologia do sistema Advaita da filosofia indiana. O terceiro capítulo, o capítulo central deste trabalho, explica o papel específico de māyā na explicação da ontologia monista do Advaita Vedānta. O quarto capítulo ilustra as diferentes críticas ao conceito de māyā, tanto da tradição filosófica indiana como da ocidental. As respostas dos Advaitins às críticas levantadas enriquecem este capítulo.
