Cet ouvrage examine les facteurs idéologiques et leur impact sur les relations politiques entre l’Indonésie et la Malaisie au cours de la période 1961-1976. Ces facteurs idéologiques, à savoir le modèle démocratique-capitaliste et le modèle communiste-socialiste, ont fortement influencé les relations politiques entre ces deux pays d’Asie du Sud-Est pendant l’ère de la bipolarité (début de la guerre froide). La nature des relations politiques entre l’Indonésie et la Malaisie reposait sur des facteurs idéologiques. L’évolution de ces relations après 1965 a été marquée par les changements d’idéologie politique en Indonésie, à savoir le passage d’une influence communiste-socialiste (sous l’ancien ordre de Sukarno) à une idéologie démocratique-capitaliste sous le nouvel ordre de Suharto. L’ouvrage aborde également la relation entre les facteurs systémiques et les facteurs nationaux. Des facteurs nationaux ont également influencé les changements idéologiques en Indonésie au milieu des années 1960. La similitude des idéologies politiques entre l’Indonésie et la Malaisie après le coup d’État indonésien de septembre 1965 a favorisé des relations politiques meilleures et plus harmonieuses. Les facteurs idéologiques ont constitué l’un des éléments essentiels de l’analyse des relations politiques entre l’Indonésie et la Malaisie au cours de la période 1961-1976.
