Doctrine. The very word sounds dull and divorced from the practical problems of daily life. Worse yet, discussions of doctrine often degenerate into debate and division. Whole denominations have been formed because of a doctrinal issue. The presence of a body of truth in the Bible, known as doctrine, poses several questions. The first and foremost question is, 'What is the content of that body of truth?' The other major question posed by doctrine concerns its practical value. To many, doctrine is abstract or philosophical.What is doctrine? John speaks about 'the doctrine of Christ' (2 Jn. 9). This body of truth is also called 'the faith' (Jude 3; Titus 1:13), 'the first principles of the oracles of God' (Heb. 5:12), and 'elementary principles of Christ' (Heb. 6:1). Throughout the centuries, Christians everywhere have acknowledged a body of truth called doctrine. Is doctrine practical? To the average person in the pew, doctrine is unrelated to daily life. In the Bible, doctrine is always practical. Doctrine and daily life go together like peanut and jelly, salt and pepper, and sand and beach. In Relating Doctrine to Daily Life, G. Michael Cocoris not only expounds the doctrines of the Christian faith but also relates them to daily life. Each chapter will explain a doctrine and demonstrate how it relates to life. These simple explanations of the major doctrines of Scripture will enable you to understand the basic doctrinal teachings and to apply them in your daily life.

  • The Chronology of the Bible
    G. Michael Cocoris
Developing a biblical chronology is problematic because: 1) In ancient times, there was no universally accepted reference point upon which all other dates were reckoned. History was not divided into BC and AD until AD 532, well after the Bible was written. Neither was there a universally recognized way of calculating a year. Some had a solar calendar; others used a lunar one. F...

  • Oh that I May Know the Truth
    G. Michael Cocoris
Peter commands believers to 'as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby' (1 Peter 2:2). Jesus prayed, 'Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth. The Greek word translated 'sanctify' means to 'be set apart.' So, for believers to grow, to be set apart to the Lord, they must intensely desire the truth of the Word of God, the truth that san...

  • The Faith Required To Get To Heaven
    G. Michael Cocoris
The Bible is clear. Salvation is by faith. Paul proclaimed, 'For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast (Eph. 2:8-9). That sounds simple, but as they say, 'The devil is in the details.' Bible teachers, professors, and theologians differ on two aspects of salvation by faith. The first i...
