O conceito gnathologic é útil na restauração dos dentes, bem como na eliminação de problemas oclusais. Os movimentos mandibulares podem ocorrer em qualquer um dos três planos: frontal, horizontal e sagital. Os movimentos em qualquer dos planos são guiados pelos impulsos proprioceptivos. Em pacientes dentulentos, os impulsos são obtidos a partir do ligamento periodontal, enquanto em pacientes desdentados, os impulsos são gerados a partir da articulação temporomandibular. Embora os movimentos mandibulares não possam ser reproduzidos com total precisão em um articulador, devemos reproduzi-los com a maior precisão possível para minimizar os danos às estruturas de suporte devido à desarmonia oclusal.O objetivo deste livro é descrever a importância das relações maxilo-mandibulares na manutenção da harmonia do sistema estomatognático.
