Replantation ist das Verfahren, bei dem ein Zahn nach einer absichtlichen oder traumatischen Avulsion sofort wieder in seine Alveole eingesetzt wird. Eine Replantation kann bei traumatischer Luxation/Avulsion, bei absichtlicher Replantation eines Zahns, bei dem eine nicht-chirurgische endodontische Behandlung fehlgeschlagen ist, und bei Zähnen, die eine Autotransplantation erfordern, durchgeführt werden. Eine Avulsion ist die vollständige Entfernung eines Zahns aus seiner Alveole und stellt einen der schwerwiegendsten Notfälle in der Zahnarztpraxis dar, da sie das parodontale Ligament und die Blutversorgung des Pulpagewebes unterbricht, was zu einer Pulpanekrose und einer Schädigung des Parodontiums führt.Die Hauptursachen für das Scheitern einer Replantation sind Wurzelresorption, Parodontitis, Schmerzen, Mobilität und eine fehlgeschlagene Primärheilung. Trotz des Scheiterns können replantierte Zähne bei richtiger Behandlung einige Jahre lang funktionsfähig bleiben.
