This is a series of essays portraying the thoughts of Charles Huhtanen on the course of modern society with special emphasis on government, science, religion, health, and politics.'These essays have a lot to do with my own adventuresand misadventures although some essays are the resultsof my experiments on subjects directly affecting me; suchas the essay on the infl uence of time of year on bloodpressure. Writing in such a way as to emulate the greatwriters of the past is but a dream evaporating with anotherrevolution of our planet around our star. Writing a waste oftime? Time better spent on something else? Not so. Realitydoes not leave after the reverie, rationalization assignsvalue to dreaming per se. Without it we would not havethe great inventions that have transformed our world. Thusthe genesis for this collection of refl ections on our times.'
