This book is partly a rewrite of essays that appeared in my earlier publications, A FEW DIFFERING OPINIONS and THINK ON THESE THINGS. These rewrites, and other included essays, ask us to take another look at what we think we know about politics, religion and other things that we like to argue about, while asking nothing more than our quiet attention. These philosophical discussions are important to me, not because they distinguish between right from wrong, but because they address the two biggest questions: 'What are we?' and 'What should we do?'

Join John and Adam as they wander the mean streets of Japan on a psychedelic fueled search for identity. While fun for the average reader, this book could also serve as a philosphy textbook because of its ordered exploration of sources of identity. Ultimately this trip through nationalist attacks, sex, and drugs, will take you to a better understanding of yourself and your pl...

Challenging the familiar form of an “academic essay,” this autobiographical narrative raises several questions in relation to our contemporary morals related to sex in ge...

This book is a hodgepodge of extremely personal essays, initially written over the past decade and now edited to reflect current conditions, public attitudes and my own opinions. For my part, I only quote others in order to make myself more explicit. When I occasionally offer advice, it is with the pronounced admission that I 'know' nothing, and that what I offer is my own beli...

  • Democracy in Crisis

I am neither an intellectual nor a scholar. I have half-jokingly stated on several occasions that all I know about history, I’ve learned from Hollywood movies. But what I see on television, in the movies and on the internet and in newspapers, in many ways reminds me of the terrible teachings and actions perpetrated on the world by the Axis powers and by Stalinist Russia, during...
