Red Fleece is a novel written by Will Levington Comfort, originally published in 1912. The story is set in the early 1900s and follows the life of a young man named John Barlow, who is searching for his place in the world. Barlow is a restless soul who has trouble settling down and finding a career that suits him. He tries his hand at various jobs, including working on a farm, selling insurance, and even becoming a boxer, but nothing seems to satisfy him.One day, Barlow meets a beautiful young woman named Mary, who captures his heart. He becomes obsessed with her and decides that he must win her over at all costs. However, Mary is already engaged to another man, and Barlow’s pursuit of her leads him down a dangerous path.As Barlow becomes more and more desperate to win Mary’s love, he becomes involved in a criminal underworld and finds himself in over his head. He is forced to make difficult choices and confront his own moral compass as he tries to navigate his way out of the dangerous situation he has found himself in.Red Fleece is a gripping tale of love, obsession, and the consequences of our actions. It explores themes of identity, morality, and the search for meaning in life. With vivid characters and a compelling plot, this novel is a timeless classic that will keep readers on the edge of their seats until the very end.He couldn’t keep off the reality long. In every direction the murderous army--no song, no laugh, no human nature, no love, no work, but death. He was imprisoned. And somewhere near or far in the midst of such a chaos, was Berthe Wyndham. Could she live in this?.... Peter was suicidal, very close to that, a new thing to him. Queerly he realized that death would be easy for himself, simple, acceptable. For there was no escape. They would not let him go. There was no place that one could go out of the army. Not even the dead go back.... It would not be fair to her. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
