Reconquista is a novel written by Federico Gamboa and published in 1908. The story is set in Mexico City during the Porfirio Daz regime and revolves around the lives of the wealthy and aristocratic families of the time. The main character, Gabriel, is a young man from a wealthy family who falls in love with a beautiful woman named Elena, who is engaged to another man. Gabriel becomes obsessed with Elena and will stop at nothing to win her love, even if it means destroying her engagement and causing chaos in the lives of those around him. The novel explores themes of love, obsession, class differences, and the corrupt nature of society during the Porfirio Daz era. The title of the novel, Reconquista, refers to the Spanish reconquest of Mexico in the 16th century, which serves as a metaphor for the struggle of the main characters to reclaim their own lives and desires in the face of societal pressures and expectations. Federico Gamboa’s writing style is known for its realism and vivid descriptions of the social and political landscape of Mexico during this time period. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
