There is this text in the Old Testament found in the book of Genesis that I think can help heal the church and allow the church to get on one accord. It is the story of the Tower of Babel. It is not my intent to look at the actions surrounding the incident of the tower, but to look at what God said concerning the people who built the tower.            Etymologically speaking(etymology is the study of words) the word Babel means the gate of god, because Bab means gate and El means god, thus Bab-el means the gate of god. This tower that was thought to be so majestic and its heights reach heaven still fell short of the height of God, because in the initial building plans in verse four there tower top was to reach the heaven, in verse five it says The Lord left heaven and came down to see the city and its tower, which the mortals had built.            Notice at first glance it would appear that God was mad at the building project and the success of the building project. But that is not the issue, the issue with God is, the motive of the people and the people leaving God out of their plans. Look at the wording of their speech in verse four: Genesis 11:4 And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.           Anytime your plans are about us and not about God they want work. You can’t ever do anything in life without God especially trying to do things that will only build you up and make a name for yourself without the help and direction of The Lord. So the text says in verse seven that The Lord confused the people languages.     I will deal with that another day but The Lord says some of the most profound words about unity in verse six that will bless the church if we pay close attention to them. The first things that The Lord said in verse six is they are one people.            There were no big I’s or little you U’s the people were one. There were no confusion they were all on one accord. The bible says in Ephesians 4:4-6 these words 'There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

We’ve been duped into removing prayer from the center of our churches and have placed it on the periphery or semi-periphery.  What we’re witnessing today in our churches, and in society at large, is that legacy of prayerlessness.  Church leadership may be hesitant and embarrassed to admit it, but there is a direct correlation between our spiritual weakness and our lack of corpo...

If God is good, why do we get sick? When God created the world, He declared: "It is good." But then came the Fall, and with it sickness and death. In this heart-tugging monograph, Dr. Davis McGuirt draws from both his training in theology and the personal agony of watching his father die from cancer to provide a variety of biblical reasons for why we get sick. We are also remin...
