Este livro examina e analisa criticamente o atual regime jurídico internacional que rege o reconhecimento e a execução de sentenças arbitrais internacionais. Centra-se na forma como as questões foram abordadas no âmbito da Convenção de Nova Iorque de 1958 e, em menor medida, da Convenção ICSID de 1965. Analisa igualmente os motivos de recusa do reconhecimento e da execução de sentenças arbitrais internacionais, tal como previsto na Convenção de Nova Iorque de 1958. O livro analisa ainda, de forma crítica, os motivos de recusa da imunidade do Estado em relação à forma como esta limita o reconhecimento e a execução das sentenças arbitrais internacionais. O livro analisa todos os aspectos acima referidos à luz do estudo comparativo em que as questões foram tratadas no Reino Unido e no Uganda. O livro constata que não existe um regime jurídico único que regule o reconhecimento e a execução de sentenças arbitrais internacionais e que mesmo a célebre Convenção de Nova Iorque ainda não foi objeto de uma aceitação universal e que alguns Estados Partes ainda não a domesticaram.
