Our magazine is for the extraordinaries and the visionaries, the eccentrics with integrity. This is why Raleigh Review does not ask for donations.I’ve never told anyone this story though in the early days of our Raleigh Review Writers’ Studio in the Five Points neighborhood, I came in a little late one day and our intern at that time met me at the door to say there was someone there waiting to speak to me. The man had a batch of printed poems and his checkbook on the table. He identified himself as the heir to one of the oldest businesses in Raleigh and he told me he wanted his poems published in our magazine, and that he’d pay whatever we asked. I immediately told him we do not operate like this and to read the guidelines on our website. After I turned down his offer to pay us, he asked me to look at his poems anyway so I took a quick look and gave him some pointers and free advice. I did notice the gentleman’s poems published in another magazine about a year or so later.At Raleigh Review, we enjoy capturing the stories of lived human experiences. Our ethics are uncompromised, our integrity is intact. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, Raleigh Review has achieved a platinum transparency score via Guidestar’s Candid rating system. Rather than placing an emphasis on one time donations, we invite our supporters to subscribe to our magazine, and we hope you will continue doing so.
