This book offers critical analyses of the roles of race, gender, and sexuality in the post-apocalyptic visions of early twenty-first century film and television shows. Contributors examine the production, reproduction, and re-imagination of some of our most deeply held human ideals through sociological, anthropological, historical, and feminist approaches. Television shows and films as seemingly diverse as The Walking Dead, Falling Skies, Battlestar Galactica, The Road, and Stake Land share both narrative and thematic concerns about the future (and perhaps past) of humanity, how we know who we are, and what we truly value most, but examine these concerns through stories that leave us both entertained and alternately comforted and a little bit anxious.
