Quiet Songs (Shtille Gesangen) is an anthology of poetry by Chaya Fedler, born in Zagare, Lithuania at the turn of the century written originally in Yiddish, and translated by her daughter Rachel Rose into English. She left Lithuania in 1927 to join her husband Solomon in South Africa, without speaking a word of English. Yiddish always remained her mother tongue. This anthology offers a window into her childhood, her hopes and dreams, humour and subsequent grief when her family was murdered in Lithuania in 1941 and she was left the sole survivor. When her world shattered, writing her poems became her only refuge. As ill health claimed her vitality, her poems begin to reflect her anguish at leaving a life unfinished and her children without a mother. This publication of her poems in English by her granddaughter Joanne Fedler is to honour her dream of being a published poet, even posthumously.May her memory be a blessing.

The collection arcs from, at one extreme, the parsimonies of the household, to the transce...

    Edward V Bonner
The very title of Edward V. Bonner's first volume of poetry, One Kiss (Ingram, 2015), suggests some ways in which the poems inside balance the universal with the particular. Most of the poems examine the themes of beauty and risk, pleasure and danger, in the context of one of three kinds of relationships: to romantic partners, to the spiritual world, and to the world of nature....
