¿Cuál es la naturaleza de la esperanza? Esta es la cuestión inmensa que Fermín Cebrecos aborda en estas páginas. Anclado en la pregunta de Immanuel Kant en la Crítica de la razón pura, “¿Qué podemos esperar?”, Cebrecos compagina, en un mismo periplo reflexivo y con ánimo caleidoscópico, una síntesis de pistas halladas en fuentes de lo más diversas: la concepción antropocéntrica atea de Ludwig Feuerbach y el cristianismo confeso de Pedro Laín Entralgo se encuentran con el marxismo utópico de Ernst Bloch; el giro histórico del Concilio Vaticano II y el pensamiento teológico de Benedicto XVI o Jürgen Moltmann, con las canciones de Metallica, Los Doltons y Bob Dylan.Aunque cauto en adelantar una respuesta, Cebrecos se detiene en la teoría de la metáfora de Hans Blumenberg para reenmarcar su pregunta original y ofrecer una nueva aproximación: la esperanza, debido a su propia naturaleza, es solo abordable a través de la metáfora. Más allá de si el marco de referencia que le da sentido a la pregunta por la esperanza es teológico o no, Cebrecos se centra en el hecho de que esta es una experiencia connatural al ser humano. El resultado es un libro notable que, conjugando de forma inusitada indagación filosófica, revisión histórica y comentario etnográfico, se plantea una de las preguntas cardinales de la humanidad. 10
