In hoc volumine, auctor quaestiones perutiles de jure belli, foederibus, et legibus maritimis pertractat, rationem practicam et empiricam anteponens speculationibus abstractis. Bijnkershoek, jurisperitus Batavus celeberrimus et Praeses Curiae Hollandicae, singularem operam dat ad explicandum quomodo principes ac populi inter se agere debeant, praesertim in rebus ad commercia, legatos, et neutralitatem in bello pertinentibus. Per Libros Duos, auctor jura et officia civitatum secundum rationem et usum gentium definit.Hic textus non solum historiam juris illustrat, sed etiam principia fundamentalia quae hodieque in jure internationali et publico valent proponit. Per accuratam analysim casuum historicorum et consuetudinum, Bijnkershoek jus gentium non ex lege naturae tantum, sed ex vero consensu nationum derivat. Est igitur fons necessarius omnibus qui student jurisprudentiae, historiae politicae, et evolutioni legum Europaearum.
