En Puerto Rico, durante el siglo XIX, hubo grandes problemas económicos debido a la escasez de moneda y confianza en la misma. En el decenio de 1870, se autorizó la circulación oficial de la moneda mexicana para pago de deudas y transacciones comerciales. Los comerciantes y hacendados puertorriqueños no estaban a gusto con la moneda mexicana y pedían al gobierno que se cambiara por otra mejor, para ser utilizada en la la Isla. En 1895, la moneda mexicana en circulación fue canjeada por otra moneda de cuño nacional, la cual se mandó a fabricar en Madrid y se acuñó el Peso Provincial de P.R. Este libro es una breve descripción de 685 documentos referentes al canje de la moneda mexicana. Esta segunda edición revisada y aumentada facilitará a cualquier investigador con acceso al internet, la búsqueda exacta del documento descrito en el mismo. El uso de archivos digitales es una forma excelente para complementar búsquedas de fuentes primarias manuscritas e impresas para hacer investigaciones históricas.
