En la actualidad, pese a la apertura sobre el tema de sexualidad, éste aún está muy mitificado y puede decirse que es un tema tabú para muchos. En los hogares los padres de familia no saben explicar de forma adecuada a los niños los interrogantes que estos se plantean, preguntas tales como: ¿ por dónde nací papi? ¿Por qué las niñas orinan sentadas y los niños no? entre otras; Sin embargo, es claro saber que el tema de la sexualidad para los padres de familia es un tabú y tratan de obviar el tema hasta que sus hijos tengan una edad adecuada. Ahora bien, en la escuela, hogar y en todos los contextos que los niños en su vida cotidiana se mueven pueden ver la relación que hay entre hombre y mujer lo cual les genera incertidumbre y estos buscan a los padres para que le expliquen el interrogante que tienen o por sus propios medios tratan de resolver su curiosidad respecto al tema adoptando conductas como alzarle la falda a las niñas y las preguntas recurrentes que se mencionaron anteriormente. Freud describe las etapas del desarrollo psicosexual infantil y además Klein habla de la importancia del amamantar, explicando la vinculación objetal del niño con sus padres.
