A Psicanálise é um método psicoterapêutico criado por Sigmund Freud que, se pode dizer, teve seus primórdios, quando ele estava em Paris, em estágio com o Dr. Charcot, estudando a histeria, doença cuja origem acreditava-se ser orgânica e hereditária. Contudo, Freud elaborou uma hipótese onde postulava que a sua origem era psicológica e não orgânica, como até então se acreditava. Mas, o que é Psicanálise? É um procedimento metodológico, científico, voltado para a investigação de processos mentais que, reprimidos patologicamente, determinam o temperamento e a conduta do indivíduo por toda a sua vida. Visa o tratamento das desordens mentais e emocionais mediante profunda investigação psicológica dos processos do aparelho psíquico. Freud diz que a Psicanálise é um método de investigação que busca, entre outros, os significados inconscientes das palavras e dos atos.Este livro trata de maneira ampla do método e princípios da psicanálise abordando de maneira didática os seus fundamentos, mediante um texto de leitura compreensível a todos que pretendam uma iniciação e formação neste método psicoterápico, não importando sua graduação acadêmica. Enfim, o objetivo que balizou sua redação foi o de oferecer um texto agradável e de fácil compreensão, contribuindo para o acervo de conhecimentos específicos sobre o tema.
