Os provérbios têm tradição milenar e, para os angolanos, acompanham os seus ancestrais, fazendo parte do vasto e riquíssimo repertório da literatura oral angolana. Por isso, pode-se afirmar que os provérbios aparecem conectados ao povo bakongo. No entanto, a obra de Kiala Vanga percorre caminhos que vão desde a recolha e estudo também já desenvolvidos, em Angola, por Heli Chatelain e Óscar Ribas, tendo sido continuado por outros pesquisadores modernos. Mas demarca-se das publicadas até hoje pela inserção da proposta pedagógica, que visa o ensino dos provérbios bakongo a partir das classes iniciais, proporcionando a exposição de adolescentes e jovens aos contextos de aprendizagem dos provérbios deixados pelos seus ancestrais.O autor vale-se da sua experiência enquanto docente de uma instituição superior de formação de professores, que é referência no País na matéria de extensão universitária para apresentar o Projecto Pedagógico.
