L’articolo ripercorre l’evoluzione della protezione delle linee di confine tra l’Impero russo e l’Iran Qajar durante il XIX e l’inizio del XX secolo, rivelando le caratteristiche della struttura e del funzionamento dei servizi di frontiera russi in tempo di pace. Viene preso in considerazione il processo di origine ed evoluzione delle strutture di frontiera della Russia ai confini con l’Iran, dalle guardie cordonali al servizio di frontiera specializzato degli ufficiali del Corpo separato delle guardie di frontiera. Vengono evidenziate le peculiarità della formazione e dello sviluppo del servizio di guardia di frontiera in Transcaucasia e nella regione transcaspica. Le tappe della riforma del sistema delle guardie di frontiera sono tracciate dall’inizio della formazione della linea di confine russo-iraniana all’inizio del XIX secolo fino all’inizio della Prima guerra mondiale nel 1914. Vengono individuate le principali strutture che svolgevano la sorveglianza dei confini, le peculiarità della loro formazione, organizzazione e cambiamenti. Vengono rivelate le peculiarità del servizio delle guardie di frontiera nel periodo considerato.
