Praca ta została opracowana w celu uzyskania tytułu licencjata na Uniwersytecie Eduardo Mondlane w Mozambiku. Niniejsza praca nosi tytuł „Projekt i montaż turbiny wiatrowej o osi pionowej' i została sfinansowana przez Uniwersytet Eduardo Mondlane we współpracy z Ministerstwem Nauki i Technologii Mozambiku. Zaprojektowany system wiatrowy jest typu „Savonius' i został zbudowany z lokalnych materiałów o stosunkowo niskim koszcie. Składa się z trzech półcylindrycznych śmigieł o łącznej masie 500 kg. Zmierzone prędkości wiatru i liczba obrotów zaprojektowanego systemu wiatrowego wskazały na sprawność mechaniczną turbiny wynoszącą ɳ=35,5%, co mieści się w normach obserwowanych w innych miejscach, gdzie przeprowadzono podobne eksperymenty. System ten wytworzył większą energię mechaniczną odpowiadającą mocy mechanicznej 5222,4 watów na minutę, która jest stosunkowo większa niż w przypadku turbin o osi poziomej, wykazując wysoką wytrzymałość, niską prędkość obrotową i wysokie wartości momentu obrotowego. Stwierdzono, że system ten ma wiele zastosowań i może służyć do wykonywania prac mechanicznych i wytwarzania energii elektrycznej.
