Die refraktive Chirurgie ist ein chirurgisches Verfahren zur Korrektur von Brechungsfehlern. Trotz der großen Vorteile, die die photorefraktive Keratektomie (PRK) bietet, ist einer der limitierenden Faktoren dieser Technik der postoperative Schmerz. Schmerzen sind eine multidimensionale und subjektive Erfahrung. Der Einsatz von schmerzlindernden Instrumenten kommt Patienten und Ärzten zugute und macht das Verfahren in der unmittelbaren postoperativen Phase ruhiger. Die photorefraktive Keratektomie (PRK) ist eine der weltweit am häufigsten eingesetzten Techniken der refraktiven Chirurgie. Trotz ihrer Wirksamkeit und Sicherheit bei der Behandlung von Myopie, Hyperopie und Astigmatismus bleiben Schmerzen eine der größten Herausforderungen in der postoperativen Phase der PRK. Obwohl die Kombination der Medikamente Codein (orales Opioid) und Paracetamol (Analgetikum) in der postoperativen Phase in verschiedenen medizinischen Fachbereichen weit verbreitet ist, wurde die Wirksamkeit und Sicherheit dieser Kombination bei der Behandlung von Schmerzen nach PRK nicht untersucht.
