Este investigador aprofunda a compreensão sobre as circunstâncias psicológicas e ambientais, contribuindo para o tratamento dos prisioneiros idosos por parte dos outros. Os participantes preencheram um questionário, participaram em entrevistas e mencionaram que os prisioneiros idosos, e eles próprios como profissionais, poderiam estar em risco de sofrer danos. Isto está relacionado com condições como restrições orçamentais e outras condições prisionais. Neste estudo fenomenológico hermenêutico, este investigador centra-se no tratamento dos prisioneiros idosos e nos seus direitos humanos. Os prisioneiros idosos podem ser definidos como aqueles com 50 anos ou mais. Neste estudo, este investigador explora questões de direitos humanos tal como entendidas pelos profissionais do sistema prisional (agentes penitenciários, agentes de liberdade condicional e membros do Conselho, psicólogos, assistentes sociais, clérigos e conselheiros). Esses direitos podem estar relacionados, por exemplo, com a segurança, dignidade, educação, privacidade e bem-estar dos prisioneiros idosos. A segurança pode ser uma questão para os prisioneiros idosos que procuram resistir ao assédio ou à violência por parte de prisioneiros mais jovens. Este investigador também se centra neste estudo nas necessidades e contextos dos prisioneiros idosos numa perspetiva de direitos humanos.
