Toutes les restaurations métalliques sont solides et résistantes mais, d’un point de vue esthétique, elles ne conviennent qu’aux restaurations postérieures. Heureusement, les qualités esthétiques des matériaux céramiques peuvent être combinées à la résistance des métaux pour produire des restaurations qui ont à la fois un aspect naturel semblable à celui des dents et de très bonnes propriétés mécaniques. Les alliages nickel-chrome et cobalt-chrome sont utilisés dans les restaurations en porcelaine fusionnée sur métal. Le titane et les alliages de titane ont également été utilisés.
