A fraude em exames é considerada um dos maiores problemas que minam os alicerces da educação atual. O estudo investigou as opiniões dos alunos do ensino secundário sobre os fatores que contribuem para as práticas fraudulentas nos exames internos no subcondado central de Kakamega. Uma proporção significativa dos inquiridos confirmou a ocorrência de várias formas de práticas fraudulentas nos exames, tais como escrever notas em panos, secretárias, paredes e partes do corpo, obter as perguntas do exame antecipadamente, alterar as notas nos boletins para obter notas mais altas, substituir as respostas por respostas pré-preenchidas e permitir que outros alunos copiem o seu trabalho, entre outras. As principais causas das fraudes foram maus hábitos de estudo, preguiça, falta de autoconfiança, pressão familiar para se destacar, preparação inadequada para os exames, ensino deficiente, salas de exame superlotadas e supervisão deficiente, entre outras. Concluiu-se que existem práticas fraudulentas nos exames internos das escolas secundárias e que as causas são tanto psicossociais como ambientais. Por conseguinte, recomendou-se que fossem colocados conselheiros profissionais nas escolas secundárias para ajudar os alunos na autocompreensão e na autogestão.
