Der Erfolg der präprothetischen chirurgischen Vorbereitung hängt von einer sorgfältigen Beurteilung und Behandlungsplanung ab. Im Allgemeinen sollten zuerst die knöchernen Anomalien behandelt werden. Die zugehörige Weichgewebskorrektur wird häufig erst nach Abschluss der Knochenaugmentation und -konturierung durchgeführt. Eine gleichzeitige Knochenaugmentation wird versucht, wenn die Knochenaugmentation auf eine Verbesserung der Kontur abzielt und nicht auf eine signifikante Vergrößerung der Alveolenhöhe oder -breite. Das endgültige Prothesendesign und die Ziele der langfristigen Funktion, der ästhetischen Qualität und des Gewebeerhalts müssen in allen Phasen der Behandlung berücksichtigt werden.
