Aby zrozumieć i przeanalizować powody, dla których nauczyciele zatrudnieni na stałe w systemie szkół publicznych stanu Ceará, uznawani przez PNST za pracowników, zachorowali i w konsekwencji byli często readaptowani, wykorzystaliśmy metody i techniki gromadzenia danych, aby lepiej ocenić ten fakt. W badaniach eksploracyjnych, początkowo dokumentacyjnych, a następnie w terenie, stwierdziliśmy, że z całkowitej liczby readaptowanych urzędników służby cywilnej 85% to nauczyciele, a dwie główne przyczyny tych readaptacji to choroby układu oddechowego (ICD J), związane z nadużywaniem głosu, oraz zaburzenia zachowania i psychiczne (ICD F), związane ze stresem, depresją i zespołem paniki. Poprzez obserwację uczestniczącą i częściowo ustrukturyzowane wywiady zebraliśmy informacje (raporty i wywiady), które uzupełniły i uzasadniły dane ilościowe, pokazując, że przyczyny readaptacji są związane z przemocą, przepracowaniem, presją zawodową i rodzinną.
