No one chooses to live a life of poverty. Jose Daniel was born into poverty. His childhood was faced with overwhelming challenges that the affluent children in his neighbourhood never had to confront. His mother was never around, and his father was a habitual offender of the law. The only maternal contact and warmth that he received was from his paternal grandmother, whom he had to take care of until her death. This is when Jose’s psychological pain begins. He becomes a juvenile offender. After that, he is taken to Johannesburg by his paternal aunt. Jose is still carrying the pain of the loss of his grandmother in spite of his aunt’s support. He falls in love with and marries his lovely wife, and together, they become the Bonnie and Clyde of fraudulent transactions. They defraud a department of the South African government for 4.2 million rand and live a luxurious life for a few short years until the long arm of the law catches up with them. Their trial is gruelling to say the least. They both are imprisoned at separate correctional facilities. Jose witnesses the harsh reality of prison life. On his release, he returns to a life of homelessness and vagrancy in Durban. This is when he was taken by the hand and led into the door of redemption. This is a sad yet candidly titillating story of the life of Jose Daniel.
