Przemysł budowlany jest w dużym stopniu uzależniony od konwencjonalnych materiałów, takich jak cement, granit i piasek do produkcji betonu. Cement jest najbardziej ekonomicznym składnikiem stosowanym w produkcji betonu, a także stwarza problem dotkliwych niedoborów w wielu obszarach, co stwarza poważne problemy w zakresie jego dostępności, kosztów i wpływu na środowisko. Aby chronić środowisko i wyprodukować tani beton, w ramach tego projektu podjęto próbę częściowego zastąpienia cementu materiałami dostępnymi lokalnie, takimi jak proszek ze skorupek jaj. Rozważana mieszanka betonowa to M40 o stosunku 1:1,61:2,87. Próbki przygotowano poprzez zastąpienie cementu 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%.
