Der Autor stellt die Ergebnisse seiner eigenen, der bisher wohl umfassendsten Studie dieser Art dar: 119 Patientinnen mit Postpartum-Psychose und ihre Verwandten ersten Grades wurden durchschnittlich 21 Jahre nach der Indexerkrankung erfaßt. Die Untersuchung schließt eine Lücke bezüglich klinisch relevanter Kenntnisse über diese Störungen. Der nosologische Status der Postpartum-Psychosen wird vor dem Hintergrund heutiger Kenntnisse über endogene Psychosen dargelegt. Zugleich gibt das Buch einen Überblick hinsichtlich wichtiger Aspekte des Phänomens der Postpartum-Psychose.
