The Worthy family’s wealth had allowed them to use their money in philanthropic ways to develop the sanctuary and invest in many businesses surrounding the sanctuary. They also built a fine manor, where the Worthy family settled. It tells of his contribution to all the needs of the port, which was a refuge for the many boats on the river that needed to stop for dry dock repairs. Joseph Worthy spread his wealth contracting with farmers throughout the area to grow grain crops for all the birds flying into the many ponds and lakes on this huge sanctuary. You will see how he helped other businesses build and develop. The entertainment will be in the reading of the many interesting and unique characters that operated their businesses. This is a unique story where Port Haven and the bird sanctuary grew together and found they needed each other.
