Crystal Moore is a good friend of Ron Drake, a shoo-in to win the Texas Gubernatorial race. Two workers in his opponent's campaign think that can be changed. A little dirty trick might swing votes away from Drake. But when no questionable activities by Drake can be found, the two workers decide to create one. As she begins to dig for clues, attacks are made on her life and she is lucky to stay alive. But on one such attack, she sees the shoes of the attacker -- red fringed, short boots by Eight Second Angels, a somewhat unusual and expensive boot for women. This and other clues she finds on the man who rented the unit under Drake's name move her closer to the culprits. But it is enough and in time to save Drake's chances, as his numbers fall below his opponent?On election day, Drake comes in number two. But the vote is so close that no decision can be made until votes from military personnel overseas can be counted. And the attacks on Crystal escalate. Can she survive?
