Casa de las Américas y Mundo Nuevo construyeron sus discursos sobre dos maneras distintas de entender la legitimidad intelectual: donde una privilegiaba el compromiso crítico del intelectual, la otra avalaba su autonomía estética. De las fricciones entre esos dos modelos se ocupa este libro, que, al decir de Rubén Chababo, puede verse «no sólo como un aporte fundamental para el estudio de un momento paradigmático en la historia del campo cultural latinoamericano […], sino además como una sólida y exhaustiva propuesta de reflexión en torno a las relaciones que los campos intelectuales del continente han mantenido con Cuba». Idalia Morejón Arnaiz (Santa Clara, 1965) reside desde 1997 en Brasil, donde es profesora de literatura hispanoamericana de la Universidad de São Paulo y dirige el sello editorial Malha Fina Cartonera. Además de Política y polémica en América Latina, que se publicó por primera vez en 2010, es autora de Cartas a un cazador de pájaros (2000), Una artista del hombre (2012), La Reina Blindada (2014) y Caderno de vias paralelas (2015).
