In our poetry unit this year, our sixth graders read andmemorized famous poems, were exposed to manydifferent types of poetry, and tried their hand atwriting their own poetry. Some of those poemsinclude tanka, cinquain, haiku, acrostic, bio, concrete, diamante, ocean research, couplets, titledown, and limericks. My students had fun creatingpoems that expressed who they really are. They alsoquickly discovered that writing poetry is very revealing, which can be scary. I am proud of their willingnessto share this part of themselves with others. Theopenness and ease with which they write, along withtheir wit and honesty, simply amazes me. I hope youenjoy reading their work as much as I have. Theyshould be very proud of their accomplishments.~~~~~~~Ann Gookin,6th Grade Language Arts Teacher
