A majority of these works of poetry were evoked from a passionate, relentless drive to heal the land through ecological restoration. Topics explored include forest consciousness, indigenous cultures, symbiosis, microcosm & macrocosm, emotional intelligence through ecosystems, and vigor of native species. I work as a nursery and seed bank manager for the Division of Forestry and Wildlife in Maui. The unique and sacred life here is an endless plethora of spiritual lessons for those who listen. Approximately 90% of the native flowering plants are endemic and only occur here. Also, we have the highest rate of endangered and rare species. This creates a great potential in poetry, where sharing the sacred breath of life with the divine beings is a sacred gift. The need to save these species and ecosystems parallels countless similar situations worldwide. Thereʻs a myriad of topics explored, very rich in metaphors, imagery, and inspiration for connectivity of the reader to Gaia, the Mother Earth. The term Gaia is used in this book within the common perspective that the Earth is a divine being, an entity. These works have been described as empowering, inspiring gratitude, compassion, and deep appreciation for our purpose to be caretakers of Gaia. There is hope for this book to create stronger connections among readers in connecting to and fulfilling the purpose to be caretakers of native ecosystems, and the life within them.A second section on humanity explores the dysfunctionality and disconnection of modern society from nature, the healing potency of healthy ecosystems, and shifting perspectives. These range from colonialism, egalitarianism, toxicity of the chemical revolution, metamorphosis from modern roles to being caretakers of Gaia, homelessness, Hawaiian sovereignty, and finding healing in earthy spirituality.A third section explores the inspirations, evoked emotions, and perspectives of love, relationships, and the aloha spirit. This explores a range of relationships, including a flowering plant to a woman in a garden, friendship, a doumbek drummer for a belly dancer, passionate romance, and many more. These creative, expressive writings stem from an earthy philosophical influence. I hope that they evoke radiant feelings of love for native ecosystems, while also serving as a catalyst for cultivating philosophies of nature.
