ARMANDO ÁLVAREZ BRAVO nació en La Habana, Cuba en 1938 y falleció, exiliado de su país por persecución política, en Miami, Florida, Estados Unidos en 2019. Cursó estudios primarios y secundarios en el colegio de los Hermanos de La Salle en el Vedado y después en la Escuela Profesional de Publicidad en la Universidad de La Habana, donde fue profesor.         Poeta, crítico, narrador, investigador literario, traductor y editor era miembro de número de la Academia Cubana de la Lengua, correspondiente de la Real Academia Española y la Academia Norteamericana de la Lengua Española y miembro vitalicio de la American Translators Association. Fundador y ex presidente del PEN Club de Escritores Cubanos en el Exilio. Autor de más de cuarenta libros de varios géneros, se le considera uno de los poetas fundamentales de la poesía cubana de la generación del 50, que él designó como la generación arrasada. El autor publicó en Cuba sus dos primeros libros, El Azoro (1964) y Relaciones (1973), siendo este último destruido por las mismas autoridades cubanas días después de su publicación.        Salió al exilio en 1981 y residió en Madrid, España. Allí publicó Para domar un animal (1982), que ganó el Premio de Poesía José Luis Gallego. En 1985 se estableció con su familia en Miami, Florida. En esta ciudad trabajó para El Nuevo Herald como crítico de arte y literatura por veinte años y continuó su obra poética.        En Poesía Completa también aparecen tres libros inéditos: Nunca se aprende a perder (2014), El corazón en la palma de la mano (2017), y Los días contados (2018-2019) y la conferencia que el autor dictó en Miami en 1998 La generación arrasada, donde explica su vida y el descalabro que significó para la nación cubana y su pueblo, el régimen totalitario de Cuba por más de 60 años.        Siempre dijo que había escrito cientos de poesías pero que todas eran parte de un único poema. Trabajó sin descanso por la cultura cubana, tanto dentro como fuera de Cuba en el prolongado exilio que han vivido los cubanos.ARMANDO ÁLVAREZ BRAVO was born in Havana, Cuba in 1938 and died, exiled from his country due to political persecution, in Miami, Florida, in 2019. Founder and former president of the PEN Club of Cuban Writers in Exile. Author of more than forty books of various genres, he is considered one of the fundamental poets of Cuban poetry of the generation of the 50’s, which he designated as the ‟devasated generation.' The author published his first two books in Cuba, El Azoro (1964) and Relaciones (1973), the latter being destroyed by the same Cuban authorities days after its publication.
