Poems from the Inner Life

A hush falls over the parlour, the candlelight flickers, and from the stillness emerges a voice not entirely of this world. In an era enthralled by the mysteries of spirit communication and the unseen, a singular collection of spiritual poetry offers a glimpse into the heart of nineteenth-century American spiritualism. These verses, at once intimate and profound, draw upon the metaphysical yearnings of the Victorian era, where the boundaries between the earthly and the divine seemed tantalisingly thin. The poems gathered here are shaped by the fervour of mediumship, each piece echoing with the possibility of voices reaching across the veil. The language is rich with transcendental longing, exploring the depths of faith, doubt, and the soul’s eternal quest for meaning. Through lines both gentle and urgent, the collection becomes a conduit for inspiration, inviting readers into a dialogue with the invisible-a hallmark of metaphysical poetry at its most evocative. The spiritual verse found within does not merely contemplate the afterlife; it wrestles with the living questions of hope, loss, and the promise of reunion, all set against the backdrop of a rapidly changing world. For those drawn to inspirational poems, the collection offers a rare blend of Victorian sensibility and American spiritualist thought, rendered in a voice both lyrical and sincere. It stands as a testament to an age when poetry served as both solace and revelation, capturing the restless spirit of seekers who longed for connection beyond the material. The resonance of these works is felt not only in their historical context but in the enduring human desire to touch the infinite. This book was out of print for decades and is now republished by Alpha Editions.
